TANK IN USE INDICATOR

Whenever we go on long flights, we manage our fuel by alternating fuel tank use, one hour on the right, then two hours on the left etc. sometimes I am unsure as to which tank we are using and when you are strapped down due to turbulance which is probobly the reason I forgot, it is not easy to see the fuel valve. I built up a valve cover of 5 ply BID to within 1/8" of the bottom of the fuel valve handle. I mounted two "Roller lever"microswitches so the roller extends through cutouts so as to make contact with the bottom of the fuel valve handle. These switches were then wired to two green LEDs on the panel marked "L" and "R". The stop for the left tank is a detent that I made out of .025 stainless which I pop riveted to the cover. See FUEL VALVE OFF DETENT Link. This detent prevents you from accidentally turning off the fuel supply. If you want to turn off the fuel supply you must depress the detent to turn the valve off.

The left hand photo shows the pilots eye view of the fuel valve, the valve is on the right tank position, the right hand photo shows the LEDs on the panel marked "L" and "R" with the "R" LED on. Click here to write me.
