LANDING AND TAXI LIGHT.
WHEN IT CAME TIME TO PUT IN THE LANDING AND TAXI LIGHT,
THERE WERE SOME THINGS I WANTED TO DO. I WANTED A BRIGHTER LIGHT AS IN
"HALOGEN" AND I DID`NT WANT TO HAVE TO ADJUST FOR TAXI OR LANDING MODE
AS THIS WAS ONE MORE TASK THAT I WILL HAVE TO DO AT A VERY BUSY TIME, AS
IN LANDING. AT FIRST I CONSIDERED PUTTING THE LIGHT AT THE TRANSITION BETWEEN
THE LEFT WING LEADING EDGE AND THE STRAKE, BUT THE LIGHT STRIKING THE CANARD
AND ANY MIST WILL SURELY BLIND YOU. SO, BACK TO THE PLANS,WHICH IS WHERE
I INSTALLED IT. THE LEVER AND LINKAGE ARE PER PLANS YOU MAY HAVE TO ADJUST
"LL-5 AND LL-6" TO ALLOW FOR THE RECTANGULAR LAMP,THE LAMP IS SOMETHING
ELSE AGAIN. I USED A WAGNER RECTANGULAR HI-LO BEAM HALOGEN P/N HP6545 MADE
OF HIGH IMPACT PLASTIC WHICH IS HALF THE WEIGHTOF THE GLASS MODEL.
I MOUNTED IT UPSIDE DOWM IN A FRAME MADE OUT OF AIRCRAFT
GRADE PLYWOOD THEN TILTED THE MOUNT 8 DIGREES DOWN.
TO MINIMIZE NOISE AND DISTURBING THE AIR FLOW TO THE ENGINE
I MADE A 5 PLY BID SHROUD BEHIND THE FRAME. I CONTROL THE LIGHT WITH A
CENTER OFF MINI TOGGLE SWITCH. THUS WHEN I NEED THE LIGHT I LOWER IT TO
A STOP, SWITCH UP TO TAXI. THE LOW BEAM IS PARALLEL TO THE RUNWAY AND REFLECTS
OFF THE RUNWAY REFLECTORS. FOR LANDING I SWITCH THE TOGGLE DOWN, TURNING
ON THE HIGH INTENSITY HIGH BEAM AND IN LANDING MODE THE BEAM IS APPROX.
50 TO 75 FEET IN FRONT OF YOU. I LIMIT THE LIGHT EXTEND SPEED TO 120 KT.
I NOW HAVE OVER 400 HOURS IN MY COZY.
